Semester Reflection

This class, Technological Resources for Performing Arts Educators, was a really important class for me because I am not good at using computers and technology. First, I knew that technology can affect music, but using Audacity allowed me to really understand that the effect can be really big. I will show these technologies to my students in the future. Second, I was able to develop my first blog. It was exciting because I was able to express my opinions in the internet so other people to read them. Third, I never made animation and movie before, so it was interesting to make them during this class. For my wedding next year, I will make a slide show with pictures of me and my fiancé during reception.

Before I entered NYU, I was a music composition major in college in South Korea. Even though I used computer software to write songs, I didn’t know anything more about relationship between technology and music. But this class really helped me to learn how I can use different computer technology to teach students in the future.

Group meeting Two

We had a second meeting for our group project. One of our group member brought dance video file and we recorded music to Audacity. Then we altered tempo, pitch, and edit echo and bass boost. It had numerous effects on the music. Now I am wondering how we can change dance movement to the change of music and how we can create lesson plan for students about using technology. I think that we will be able to change movements to the change of music after learning how to create movies.

Group meeting one

Yesterday, our group which is composed of three music education majors and one dance education major had a first meeting. We discussed about exploring how to combine music and dance in education. Our group mentioned that we can use different technology which we have been learning in the classroom including: power point as presentation, audacity to edit music, animation to edit dance step, etc.

I think that using technology to change a piece of music affects tempo, dynamic, and sound. Also, we can explain many different meanings or feelings with dance in a music.
I am looking forward to our project and it will be a good experience for my future.

The First Week of Class

Last Monday, my summer class, Technology Resources for Performing Arts Educators, has started. Before starting class, I was excited about gaining technological knowledge with arts because I do not have much skill in technology. Last week, I learned a lot such as making my own homepage and blog and how to use html language to post images and music. Even though it was difficult for me to learn it, I was happy because I can expand my technological knowledge.

I think technology is critical in educating students in any field, especially music. Music has changed so much in recent years with the use of technology to create new, interesting sounds that we never heard before. Also, technology allows composers to write songs with a computer which can be so much more efficient. Finally, technology will make even more innovative changes that we don't know about right now. Therefore, as a future music teacher, I need to and want to take this class to increase my knowledge in technology. I'm looking forward to this semester!
